The Supply Chain Days 2010 conference was held at the Villa
Bosch convention centre in Heidelberg for the fourth time, again under the patronage of Professor Lothar Späth. Case studies from today’s corporate world constituted a key feature of the leading multi-sector conference for the supply chain management field.
High profile speakers included Franz Einert, head of Global Supply Chain Governance at BASF SE; Martin Lux, head of Manufacturing & Logistics at Bombardier Transportation; Dr. Heiko Rengel, managing director of Boehringer Ingelheim microParts; Dr. Christoph Siegel, director of the Truck Division at Daimler; and Dr. Christof Spathelf, head of Manufacturing Overseas at Volkswagen. Another high spot of the event was the evening reception at the star-rated Schwarz Restaurant, located within the Print Media Academy in Heidelberg. Thomas Fricke, the man with overall responsibility for logistics at the FIFA World Cup of 2006, gave a humorous address in which he looked ahead to this year’s World Cup and the dinner about to be served. He also revealed the secret of his success in 2006: the combination of excellent organisation and a mood of positivity. “Thanks to the presentations and intensive dialogue, I’ve also gained plenty of new insights this year”, said Dr. Christoph Kilger, management board member at J&M Management Consulting and the initiator of Supply Chain Days. Growth strategies, client focus in the supply chain, collaboration and supplier integration emerged as central themes over the two days of the conference.
As became apparent from the real-world case studies and the rigorous discussion and debate taking place between 120 or so supply chain experts, business leaders and academics, companies really are in the process of switching back from defensive tactics to offensive strategies.
The next Supply Chain Days will take place in Heidelberg on 25th and 26th May 2011.

Supply Chain Days 2010: Supply Chain Management enjoying a resurgence
It’s not just wishful thinking: the feeling of euphoria is well founded. A confident Professor Franz-Josef Radermacher described the future for the global economy as a "bonanza" for logistics and supply chain management. However, he cautioned that for this scenario to be sustained in the long term, growth will have to be climate-friendly and contribute to raised standards of living around the world.
